For what purpose Raspberry Pi is used?

Do you want to know For what purpose Raspberry Pi is used? or If you say you have heard about its name but are not much aware of its work , uses and scope. So here is something which might grab your attention.

According to Wikipedia:

The Raspberry Pi  is a series of small single-board computers developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to promote teaching of basic computer science in schools and in developing countries.

Raspberry Pi Foundation (United Kingdom) developed Raspberry Pi initially for giving basic knowledge of computer science in schools of developing countries but for their surprise it become popular in other field such as project implementation in robotics.

The main reason of its popularity is its low cost(US-5$ for its initial model in 2015!) and portability. But at present, its enhanced versions have also been released with better and new features which are making it costlier. The latest is The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ (2019).

To get an idea about programming, Pi Foundation added Scratch and python as programming understanding and provided a 32-bit i.e. Debian based Linux distribution for downloading purpose.
I am avoiding technical terms like “Raspberry Pi uses IVth GUP of Video Core via binary blob….so on..” as it pops out of my mind and I presume yours too. Let’s talk about its cool applications and implementations.

Raspberry Pi as FM Radio

Do you want to show up your RJ qualities like RJ<yourname> in your locality or want to communicate with others who don’t even require internet to hear you . Wow! It can be a real life experience to express your thoughts or even teaching anyone nearby (It comes with certain drawbacks like shorter range, etc). All you need is a portable battery and soldering materials (And of course the Pi also). You have to pre-load that audio in a micro-SD card that you want to broadcast.

Raspberry Pi for Artificial Intelligence

Raspberry Pi can be a powerful tool for artificial intelligence. As it has low power requirements and small form factor. That’s why it is used in many embedded projects. Also Google is using it in its AIY projects (Artificial Intelligence Yourself ) for example Voice kit.

The AIY Voice Kit from Google lets you build your own natural language processor and connect it to the Google Assistant or Cloud Speech-to-Text service, allowing you to ask questions and issue voice commands to your programs. All of this fits in a handy little cardboard cube, powered by a Raspberry Pi. Everything you need is provided in the kit, including the Raspberry Pi.

Using RP in Robotics

We can Build and control cool robots with the Raspberry Pi. There are many awesome projects out there which have been made by using creativeness and imaginations including drones, control robotic arms, humanoid robots, etc. You can do or adapt to build your own original robot. Just use your imagination! You can check this link for more info

Raspberry Pi for IoT

As we know, nowadays, Internet of Things is the hottest topic in IT. Every organization wants to participate in the IoT, and many IT professionals want to know how to add IoT skills to their resume. There are many options to learn IoT but if we come to project building then Raspberry Pi can be a better option as it offers a complete Linux server in a tiny platform for a very low cost. You can look its project implementation here.

Raspberry Pi as Web Server

If you want to launch a  great, lightweight and affordable Web Server for either the home of a small business here comes Raspberry Pi board as an alternative. It sounds cool when a person is having a web server at home :). Raspberry Pi (connected to your local network and running a fairly-recent version of the Raspbian operating system) can be used as a web server and can handle a small amount of traffic. It can handle small sites so you can even start blogging by using this as a server.

If you want to know how to set web server on Pi then for Apache you can go here.

Playing Retro Games in Raspberry Pi

Pi is popularly used for gaming and we can ideally consider it as a retro gaming machine. Many popular 16 bit game consoles can also be revived on Raspberry Pi . And not only this, Pi can be used as a game server too. Raspbian is the default OS for Pi but it also comes with Mine-craft pre-installed version. And if you have multiple Pis, then one can be a dedicated server within your home network and you will get a better User Experience.
